Teamwork at the heart of Office 365 updates - August 2017
August brought a range of exciting updates to the Office 365 suite, with teamwork at their core. These updates cover a range of features and are designed to help you get the most from the suite, and work with colleagues more effectively.
Let's take a look at the details:
Microsoft has launched co-authoring in Excel as a general function. If you store spreadsheets using OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online, you can work on these at the same time as other members of your team. The co-authoring system will show you who else is accessing the workbooks, and the changes they’ve made.
Office 365 subscribers can create, edit, and add to documents, thanks to the general availability of AutoSave. If you work with PowerPoint, Word or Excel, and store the files in OneDrive or SharePoint, your changes will be automatically stored in the cloud for access whenever needed.
With OneNote Class Notebook in Teams, classroom management is made easier for teachers, enabling full access to the OneNote Class Notebook within the platform, and allowing students and teachers to 'stay on the same page'.
Enhanced assignments mean that students can begin their assignments, confident of being on the right track, with access to third-party resource links input by teaching staff and distributed by the Teams function. New settings mean assignment scores will be in one place, in a central management system.
IT control has been improved and enhanced, meaning IT admins can enable or disable private chat and class assignments, allow permissions for third-party apps, and create a secure learning environment, tailored to the school.
Outlook for Windows profiles
Office 365's intelligent profile update has been extended to Outlook for Windows. Outlook members can now benefit from better connection with work colleagues, external contacts, and groups. Using Microsoft Graph, these profile enhancements are a click away, giving fast access to files, conversations and group membership.
Yammer for company communication
This iPad-based Yammer App has been redesigned, and the results are impressive. The improved experience offers a universal search function, auto sign-in, and new updates to the overall design. Organisations can ensure employees stay up to date with company-wide announcements and community notifications, with information accessible while on the move.
Office 365 usage reports have been updated to include a new Yammer activity report, to enable analysis of how your business connects.
